CEYLON, a city in sections 23-26 in Lake Belt Township, has the former name of a large island adjoining India, which is now named Sri Lanka. It is also the name of villages in Pennsylvania and Ohio. It was incorporated as a village October 22, 1900; it developed when the Minnesota and International Railway came through in 1898, the railroad choosing the townsite and naming it Chanhassen; however, that name was already in use, so a group of men sitting in Tom Sahr's general store suggested Ceylon for the boxes of Ceylon tea in the store. The post office began in 1899
